CONSERVE® Plus Total Hip Resurfacing

Paul, 37, is an active adult who enjoys hiking, playing basketball and is an experienced distance runner. In 2005, while in the final stages of training for an upcoming marathon, he began to experience severe pain in his hip. Paul thought it was a pinched nerve and immediately saw his doctor who told him that his hip pain was due to the joint rubbing bone-on-bone. The doctor encouraged Paul to stop all exercising and to stay off his hip. Discontinuing the activities he enjoyed, such as running and hiking, was not an option, according to Paul.

Paul Paul underwent the hip resurfacing procedure on January 9, 2006 and recalls that the surgical recovery was “pretty easy.” After just two days, he was walking with crutches. Six weeks after his surgery, Paul was hiking and back to his regular activities. Since then he has competed in the Seattle half-marathon, Mercer half-marathon, the Super Jock ‘n Jill half-marathon and he has hiked the Grand Canyon. More than a year later, Paul only experiences a little pain with long distance running and is currently training for the New York City marathon in November 2007.
