Total Replacement with the CONSERVE® Total Hip Implant with BFH® Technology

CONSERVE® Total Implant X-ray

This third offering within LIFETIME SOLUTIONS™ is a total hip replacement utilizing Wright’s CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology. The CONSERVE® Total Hip is designed to mimic the natural anatomy and motion of the hip by replacing the patient’s femoral head with a large diameter femoral head implant. This increased femoral head diameter design and resulting increased range of motion helps reduce the risk of dislocation – one of the most common problems associated with hip replacement.

Most traditional total hip implants are made of plastic-on-metal components. However, with the improved wear characteristics of metal-on-metal bearings, laboratory testing of the CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology suggest it may last much longer than plastic-on-metal components.

CONSERVE® Total Design
The CONSERVE® Total Hip utilizes the same (BFH® Technology) as the CONSERVE® PLUS implant. Thus, the same benefits of large diameter metal-on-metal bearings are maintained. Exclusive to Wright, BFH® Technology has produced a superior artificial hip that is designed to be more like your normal hip anatomy in size and function. In traditional hip surgery, the diseased hip is replaced with a joint that is much smaller in size which can make the new joint susceptible to dislocation. In contrast, the larger femoral head in the BFH® Technology Hip is designed to reduce the chance of post-operative dislocation while increasing the range of motion. In fact, BFH® Technology allows patients to potentially achieve up to a 172° range of motion, compared to 130° - 135° of Wright’s traditional implants.* This extra range of motion can make a big difference for those trying to return to a normal, active life.

With BFH® Technology, dislocation jump distance reaches 25.2mm, as compared to 16mm for more traditional femoral head sizes. This simply means that the BFH® implant must travel a greater distance to dislocate - a distance that is so much greater than the jump distance of traditional hip replacement implants, that the chance of dislocation is greatly reduced.4
