Risks
The primary risk involved with total hip resurfacing is dislocation.
Fortunately, the CONSERVE® PLUS implant is designed to decrease this risk. The
size of the head diameters in the CONSERVE® PLUS System increases the range of
motion dramatically, thus reducing the chance of dislocation.
In the CONSERVE® PLUS study, the dislocation rate was 0.9% (or 13 in 1305).2
This is far lower than the traditional dislocation rates for total hip
arthroplasty. Many studies have pointed to primary hip dislocation rates ranging
from 2-5%.1
The following abstract is a summary review of Wright's long-term experience
with total hip arthroplasty using large diameter femoral heads in treatment and
prevention of dislocation. The study was performed by Dr. Harlan Amstutz,
Dr. Michel Le Duff, and Dr. Paul Beaulé.
