Implants
The shells are constructed of cobalt chrome and are available in 1mm increments
to allow for exact sizing of the acetabulum. The bearing surface inside the shell
is cross-linked polyethylene. The use of cross-linked polyethylene results in
a significant reduction in the amount of particles that are created from wear
compared to UHMWPE. There is an UHMWPE support ring inside the shell that is
permanently fixed. There is also an UHMWPE locking ring that assembles above
the support ring and locks into place once the head is inserted into the shell.
Locking Mechanism
This image shows the locking ring in its “unlocked” position, without the head in
the shell.

In this image the head has been inserted. This causes the locking ring to engage
and locks the head into place. If necessary, you can remove the head using the
Removal Key. Instructions for removing the head are listed later in this surgical technique. |
