Patient Testimonial
Philip, LINEAGE® Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hip Recipient
Philip, 49, has been active his whole life. In high school, he played football and baseball. More recently, Philip has enjoyed water skiing and sharpening his tennis and golf skills. Unfortunately, Philip's love of sports slowly wore out his left hip and severely limited his mobility and flexibility.
For a decade, starting in 1997, Philip dealt with hip pain. He kept up a lightweight workout routine, flexibility exercises and even saw a chiropractor. While he had difficulty sleeping through the night, he managed to get through a round of golf every once in awhile and just braced himself for the resulting pain. However, the long flights and drives Philip needed to endure as a traveling salesman became more difficult and he was disappointed that he could no longer pitch a baseball to his son. Finally he consulted numerous doctors in the area, only to be discouraged by the long recovery time and large scar that they predicted.
Philip browsed the Internet and came across information on Wright's website about different hip replacement options. By searching for physicians in his area, he found Dr. Dan Daluga from Lafayette Orthopaedic Clinic. Dr. Daluga recommended that Philip be treated with Wright's LINEAGE® Ceramic Hip Replacement via the PATH® Tissue-Sparing / Minimally-Invasive Technique. This implant is often recommended to younger patients, because of its high strength and low wear, making it resistant to wear inside the body.

Dr. Daluga performed Philip's hip replacement surgery in April of 2007. Wright's PATH® technique is designed to preserve the soft tissue and the function and stability in the hip joint. Using this technique, patients may reduce their surgical recovery from several months to just a matter of days, which was certainly the case for Philip. He was able to walk down the hallway just hours following surgery and was released from the hospital less than 24 hours later. The next day, he surprised himself by taking a walk around the block. After three days, Philip no longer felt the need to take pain medication and, only a month later, he was back on the golf course.
Two months after his surgery, Philip felt completely back to normal and couldn't tell a difference between his right and left hip. Looking back, Philip doesn't know why he put off having his hip replaced, "It was a piece of cake." Philip can now work out with his son again and enjoy playing baseball with him. "People that talk to me about my hip are totally amazed. Now they want to look into it, too."
