Types of Foot Ulcers
There are different types or grades of foot ulcers based on different things, but the most important is depth. A superficial or shallow foot ulcer is easier to heal than a deep foot ulcer. Deep foot ulcers present other problems because they tend to expose tendons and bones. Because these wounds almost always have some sort of bacterial colonization, infection is a real concern. If a deep foot ulcer gets infected down to the bone, it can lead to a very long treatment with antibiotics, and may ultimately lead to amputation.
Early intervention with good wound care and grafting can often lead to better healing and prevention of infection and possible amputation. The goal of using the GRAFTJACKET® Regenerative Tissue Matrix - Ulcer Repair product is to allow the body to repair itself.
