Advantages

The ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee was designed to meet the following improvement goals over traditional or competitive knee implants:

Restoration of Normal Knee Function

Simply speaking, the medial-pivot design of Wright's implant allows for replication of normal knee motion: bending, rotating, twisting, and flexing, all while maintaining good stability and range of motion and all accommodated by its unique, patented design.

Patient Preferred | (Data)

In a survey of patients who experienced total knee surgery on both knees (one with an ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee, the other with a competitive product design), more than 80% of the recipients reported that they liked their ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee better. Nearly 75% of those surveyed said it was easier to rehabilitate the knee that was replaced with an ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee.

Which knee is easier to bend? 54.8% 25.8% 19.4%

Low Wearing Surfaces (Last a Long Time)

Another benefit of the ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee design is that it wears much less on the polyethylene (plastic insert) surface than other competitive knees. This is a result of its conformity (surface contact area).

More Contact Area

The ADVANCE® Knee System femoral implants were designed to maximize contact area with the polyethylene tibial components. This increases the longevity of the implant by spreading forces over a greater area, thereby reducing contact stresses for a low wear.

Stability

Patients who have had both knees replaced were surveyed. One knee was replaced with an ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee, the other knee was replaced with a competitive product design.

Patients felt that the medial-pivot design provided them a higher degree of stability. Because of its circular shape, which more closely mirrors the shape of the natural knee that it has replaced, the medial-pivot implant retains more contact throughout the range of motion, which makes the implant feel more stable as patients step forward; for example, descending a flight of stairs.

Faster Recovery Through Minimally-Invasive Surgery

The ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee was designed with instrumentation that allows it to be used with a surgeon's minimally-invasive technique. This smaller incision, 4-6 inches on average as compared to the 8-12 inches of a traditional surgery, enables the patient to rehabilitate more quickly with less pain and return to his or her active lifestyle more quickly.

Better Range of Motion

In contrast, the curvature of the ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee femoral component is constant, and the tibia cradles the femur throughout the full range of motion. This means your weight is spread out evenly when you bend and straighten your knee and that wear is minimized.

To see if the ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee is the right option for your knee replacement surgery, locate a physician in your area with our Physician Locator and read how patients feel about their new knee(s).
