Edgar, ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee Implant
It takes a lot of strength and energy to run a farm and raise chickens. Each morning consists of bending over, running around, chasing, grabbing, and holding. Plowing the field is next along with riding the tractor – climb on, jump off, climb on, jump off.
At 65, many men are often slowing down, fondly recounting experiences as an active youth. This is not the case with Edgar. This 65-year-old farmer is an avid biker and hiker who plans to participate in a series of bicycling races in Arkansas starting this spring. All this, after knee replacement.
Edgar has endured pain in his left leg for as long as he can remember. In college, he injured himself playing football and had surgery on his knee. In 1984, another surgery followed to straighten the leg back out. After these surgeries, he experienced pain every time he moved his knee and, as a result, even though he always valued exercise, Edgar was forced to stop running and hiking.
He tried a variety of over-the-counter and prescription medications, but nothing eased his throbbing pain. He knew he had to do something about it.
In January 2007, Edgar proceeded with knee replacement surgery and was implanted with Wright’s ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee. Now Edgar has no pain in his knee and is fervently working to restore muscle tissue in his left leg. And, his hard work seems to be paying off. “After all those years of not being able to carry its own weight, my left leg had really atrophied. Since the surgery, the left leg is starting to muscle back up. I can now hike for several hours and not be in pain all day the next day.”
Edgar still works the farm and tends to the cows. He is determined to restore his physical conditioning so he can once again be competitive and physically active. With his knee replacement, he has reinstituted hiking and running into his workout regimen again and is looking forward to a victory in his upcoming cycling competitions.
Wright’s ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee is designed to reproduce normal motion and more closely replicate the knee’s natural anatomy and help provide more patient confidence and stability1 than other knee implants.
