The Procedure

Patient with Doctor

You will be admitted to the hospital on the day of your partial knee replacement surgery. Nurses will take your vital signs and give you a hospital gown to wear during the procedure. Next, an IV will be started to give you the medication and fluids needed during the surgery. Your surgical leg will be shaved in preparation for surgery, and the anesthesiologist will come to your room to discuss the type of anesthesia used. Next you will be taken into the operating room.

A unicompartmental knee replacement surgery generally requires a smaller incision because the replacement device is smaller. A small amount of bone and the joint surface will be removed during the surgery and replaced with the implant. If the limb is not straight because of bone wear, the appropriate implant can improve that.
