Margaret, ADVANCE STATURE® Specific (Right knee)
Margaret, 67, loves to dance and cherishes every moment she gets on the dance floor with her husband. Over the past decades, dancing has taken a toll on Margaret's body, especially her knees. A few years ago, Margaret injured her left knee and required surgery to repair a torn ligament. She was excited to get back to dancing until she tripped and hurt her right knee, exacerbating her arthritis.
Margaret struggled to walk, had limited mobility, which meant no dancing for awhile, and the pain in her right knee was limiting her everyday activities. From her previous experience with her left knee, Margaret knew she didn't have to live with pain and made an appointment with orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. George Markovich, for a diagnosis.
Dr. Markovich examined her right knee and diagnosed Margaret with osteoarthritis. He recommended that she have a total knee replacement with Wright's ADVANCE STATURE® knee replacement, which is designed to reproduce the normal motion and anatomy of patients with a narrower femur.
After having surgery on July 2, 2007, Margaret began going to physical therapy to strengthen her right knee. "The therapist said that I was doing tremendously and was progressing quicker than with my last surgery," said Margaret. She had a walker for the first two weeks after surgery, but she can now walk around unassisted without problem.

Margaret is excited to return to her active lifestyle. "I couldn't walk more than half a block before surgery, and now I can walk with no problems," said Margaret. She can't wait to start dancing again. In fact, this fall, she is looking forward to dancing at her daughter's wedding reception. After her daughter's wedding, she will be taking a cruise with her husband to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary and Margaret plans to continue the dance party on the ship. "This is going to be a wonderful fall. A time of celebration that wouldn't have been possible without Dr. Markovich and my new knee."
Wright's ADVANCE STATURE® Knee components feature a tapered design to address the implant sizing needs for patients of both genders with a narrower knee anatomy or smaller skeletal frame. Previous knee replacement options had a universal sizing approach. However, research has shown that knee replacements specialized to fit each patient add greater stability and mobility. Although women are generally smaller than men and may require smaller knee implants, patients of either gender may possess a physical stature that would benefit from a narrower implant design.
