Patricia, ADVANCE STATURE® Knee Replacement

About five years ago, Patty was diagnosed with a torn meniscus, a common knee injury involving two pieces of cartilage that help stabilize and cushion the knee joint. The injury was very painful and her orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ronald Stitt, recommended knee replacement surgery as the best solution to relieve the pain.

Unwilling to jump right to surgery, Patty instead decided to try treating her knee pain with regular steroid shots and Ibuprofen. These treatments did not help. As an illustration of how debilitating her pain was, Patty says she began to eat her cereal dry each morning because she could not bring herself to walk to the back of the grocery store to buy milk.

With her knee pain dramatically impacting her quality of life, Patty decided to talk to Dr. Stitt again about knee replacement surgery. He suggested Wright's ADVANCE STATURE® knee replacement.

After doing some of her own research and speaking to Dr. Stitt's patients who had received the ADVANCE STATURE® knee, Patty decided that it was the right choice for her. "I'm only 5'2", I don't need the same sized knee as a bigger person."

On April 17, 2007, Patty's knee was replaced with Wright's ADVANCE STATURE® knee. The day after surgery, Patty was able to walk up and down the hospital hallway and was able to leave the hospital just 48 hours after surgery. Within six weeks Patty was back to work.

Today, Patty reports that she is pain free. During a recent long weekend, she was able to attend a large, two-day-long Irish festival with her family and then spend an entire day walking around a mall. "Three days of walking would have been out of the question before my surgery," says Patty. "This knee has made a huge difference in my quality of life. Thankfully I can now have my cereal with milk because I can walk to the back of the grocery store without pain."

Wright's ADVANCE STATURE® Knee components feature a tapered design to address the implant sizing needs for patients of both genders with a narrower knee anatomy or smaller skeletal frame. Previous knee replacement options had a universal sizing approach. However, research has shown that knee replacements specialized to fit each patient add greater stability and mobility. Although women are generally smaller than men and may require smaller knee implants, patients of either gender may possess a physical stature that would benefit from a narrower implant design.

These results are specific to this individual only. Individual results and activity levels after surgery vary and depend on many factors including age, weight and prior activity level.

There are risks and recovery times associated with surgery and there are certain individuals who should not undergo surgery.
