Bob, ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee Recipient

Wright ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee
Play Watch Video

Robert has been an athlete his whole life. He played baseball during college for Brown University and now, at 61, spends all his free time playing golf and cycling. In 1992, Robert reached the top of his athletic career winning the Virginia racquetball championship and competing at nationals. Shortly after the tournament, he injured his knee and was forced to give up racquetball altogether.

Over the next ten years, Robert dealt with the pain until it really began to intensify in 2003. Robert consulted with Dr. George Markovich and learned that he would likely need to have both of his knees replaced. Robert did not want to undergo surgery until it was absolutely necessary. Dr. Markovich injected a lubricant into his knee to help ease the pain. In late 2005, the knee pain forced him to stop cycling because his legs couldn't bend enough to complete a full rotation. Even golf had become too excruciating to play regularly and Robert found himself inadvertently groaning with every swing.

ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee from Wright

He knew it was time to have both of his knees replaced. On May 16, 2006, Dr. Markovich replaced both of Robert's knees with Wright's ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee. The day after surgery Robert was able to stand and began walking only a few days later. He went to physical therapy to increase his leg stamina, and after only eight weeks, Robert was able to play golf and ride his bike.

Robert has now resumed his active lifestyle. He golfs four to five times a week and cycles every day to keep in shape. "I've ridden my bike more than 3,600 miles this year," I'm so excited and thrilled with my mobility. I had no idea how disabled I really was until I had my knee replaced," Robert relates. "It's like a new life."
