Design Features

The ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Total Knee System was designed to combine clinically proven design features with scientifically driven technological advances. The three most signifant design benefits from our true Medial-Pivot feature:
- Stability
- Range of Motion
- Natural Knee Kinematics
Stability: Regained
Patients who have had both knees replaced were surveyed. One knee was replaced with an ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee, the other knee was replaced with a competitive product design.
Patients felt that the medial-pivot design provided them a higher degree of stability. Because of its shape, which more closely mirrors the shape of the natural knee that it has replaced, the Medial-Pivot implant retains more contact throughout the range of motion, which makes the implant feel more stable as patients step forward; for example, descending a flight of stairs.
Range of Motion: Realized
Most patients are able to realize a greater ROM1 by nature of the ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot Knee being more stable across the full designed range. (more info)
Natural Knee Knematics: Restored
With stability and ROM well addressed, we also focused on natural patello-femoral articulation. Our ADVANCE® Medial-Pivot design additionally features the trochlear groove extended posteriorly so the patella has full area contact with the femoral implant into deep flexion, and the patellar track angle being a more natural 3.6 degrees. With these features, more natural patello-femoral articulation is restored for most patients. (more info)

Through these features, ADVANCE® Knees surpass the traditional goals of Total Knee Anthroplasty (TKA) by restoring knee performance to a pre-arthritic level. In fact, 80% of bilateral knee patients with an ADVANCE® Knee in one leg, and a competitive design in the other, prefer their ADVANCE® Knee.5
As with any surgery, there are risks. Doctors should discuss the relevant issues for each patient's circumstances thoroughly and in as much detail as needed.
